Have you heard the term "Brown Friday"? It is used by plumbers (and others) to refer to the Friday after Thanksgiving. We know what you are thinking and it's more than bathroom plumbing that gets clogged the day after all the turkey you can eat. It is supposedly one of the busiest days of the year for plumbers, but is it really? Read on fiber friends as we explore if this is fact or fiction.
What is Getting Stuck in the Pipes?

Clogged Kitchen Sinks
A lot of cooking happens on Thanksgiving which means a lot of garbage and waste. People sometimes dispose of grease, fats, and food scraps down the kitchen drain which can lead to clogged sinks and garbage disposals and a call to Mario and Luigi.
Overloaded Toilets
Toilets are on heavy rotation during the Thanksgiving holiday with houses full of guests and more bathroom breaks which can lead to blockages and overflows.
Drain Issues
Another stressor on plumbing is dishwashers and washing machines which also see more use on the holiday.
Is Brown Friday the Busiest Day of the Year?
While the term "Brown Friday" is funny, it turns out it is actually NOT the busiest day of the year.
A study by ServiceTitan examined data between 2018 and 2020, from over 350 contractors, and found that the Mondays before and after Thanksgiving, not Brown Friday, consistently ranked among the top days for calls, plumbing jobs, and revenue.
Some plumbing companies experience a significant uptick in service calls on the Friday after Thanksgiving but data indicates that the surrounding Mondays may be even busier.
